4Deserts Grand Slam

The 4 Deserts Grand Slam

When I heard about this series, I was awestruck. I couldn’t fathom the distances or the dedication, strength and  intensity required to complete such a feat.  The series involves running 250 km across 3 hot deserts and then the 4th and final leg was in Antarctica in a multi-day stage race called, “The Last Desert.” And we had to run it self-supported, meaning that we had to carry all our gear for the duration of the race. The idea took some time to take shape in my mind.  Slowly, my curiosity grew, and then when I read that there hadn’t been a Canadian woman to complete the challenge, I was determined to do it!

I was able to complete the series, and became the first Canadian woman to do so. By finishing the series in one calendar year, I became the 8th woman in history to accomplish this feat in what is referred to as a Grand Slam.
